Food Hygiene & Safety in the Home
According to the Food Standards Agency it is estimated that approximately 5.5 million people in the United Kingdom suffer from food poisoning every year, that is one in ten people.
Most people who have suffered from suspected food poisoning often believe that the culprit food was eaten away from home e.g. the local takeaway, however, research suggests that the majority of food poisoning cases actually originate in the home. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
Food poisoning is preventable. To help yourself and others avoid food poisoning it is important to make sure that the food that you prepare is safe to eat.
This section of the website explains the basics of food hygiene including information about preventing cross contamination, safe cooking and storage and effective cleaning.
