The Heartbeat Award
Introduction
The Heartbeat Award is a nationally recognised award given to caterers who demonstrate a commitment to
customer care through the provision of a healthier environment and healthier food choices.
All types of catering establishments are eligible for the award including workplace canteens
and takeaway outlets.
To qualify for the award a business must;
- Meet good hygiene standards and show a commitment to staff training in food hygiene.
- Provide smoke-free buildings
- Provide healthier food choices for customers by, for example, offering lower fat alternatives or reducing the amount of fat in cooking.
How Does The Award Benefit Caterers?
In the UK we have high rates of heart disease and rising levels of obesity. More and more people are becoming aware of the importance of leading a healthy
lifestyle and as such are requesting smoke-free environments and healthy food options. By gaining the Heartbeat Award caterers can make a positive contribution towards safe dining and healthier living.
The benefits of the Award are;
- A certificate from your awarding authority
- Free entry in the county Heartbeat guide available at libraries, council offices, GP surgeries, hospitals and leisure centres and online.
- Use of the Heartbeat logo in your advertising
- Regular Heartbeat newsletter
- You will be making a positive contribution towards improving the health of your customers.
