Food Matters

Promoting Food Hygiene & Food Safety Awareness

Service Details
As it has been estimated that many food poisoning outbreaks arise as a result of poor food handling in the home, the Team attaches importance to promoting food hygiene for all residents of the borough.
Promotional work includes:
  • Support for National Food Safety Week
  • Support for the Heartbeat Award Scheme
  • Summer (BBQ and picnic) and Christmas (poultry) food safety campaigns
  • Ad hoc presentations to schools and other groups
From June 2005 the comprehensive Food Matters information system was available both on the Web and in hard copy. Food Matters contains a wealth of information, advice, links and interactive content on food safety and healthy eating. The content should therefore be of interest to all sections of the local community including food business proprietors and food workers, children and their carers, food handlers in the home, and catering students.
Access: Office hours, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm
